Creationalism Takes Another Hit

Scientists have discovered a fossilized duckbilled hadrosaur that is so well preserved that they have been able to calculate its muscle mass and learn that it was more muscular than thought, probably giving it the ability to outrun predators such as T. rex.

While they call it a mummy, the dinosaur is not really preserved like King Tut was. The dinosaur body has been fossilized into stone. Unlike the collections of bones found in museums, this hadrosaur came complete with skin, ligaments, tendons and possibly some internal organs, according to researchers.

Hey, I can take the logic of Creationism a step further:

I was born in 1978, and my first memories are probably around 1980 or 1981. I think the earth was probably created around 1980 or so, along with a bunch of planted evidence that I actually had ancestors living here in the 1970’s and before.

The problem is, people who are creationist don’t believe the fossil science already (things like carbon dating) so this isn’t seen by them as evidence against what they believe. Just more godless scientists attacking religion. Even worse, in my opinion, are the intelligent design guys that will concede microevolution (evolution at a sub-species level) to explain how bacteria can change to survive antibiotics, but insist that this can’t happen at a larger scale. They’re trying to have their cake and eat it too.

Scarily enough, when I played volleyball at Northwestern 3 years ago, we were traveling to a tournament and there was a Sophomore on the team (maybe not a science major, but still) who didn’t believe in evolution and his evidence was basically, “Look around, how can evolution do this?” and the classic holes in evolution progression. Without challenging himself to understand the science.

People are so afraid of science, they would rather demagogue it until they get sick and need medicine developed by science.
