1) Mr. Rogers. At a time when public broadcasting was under attack (much like today), Mr. Rogers, then in his thirties, went in front of the applicable appropriation committee and turned its scrooge chairman’s heart from stone. Absolutely stirring in delivery:

Everyone has heard pedophile jokes about Mr. Rogers. To be honest, I always thought he was a little creepy. After watching this video, I no longer see a creepy guy obsessed with children. I see a man who really cares about helping kids grow up to be healthy. I have to say, it’s admirable if not inspirational.
Most impressive to me is that he completely disarms this tough guy with a calm and steady approach, showing love and caring can triumph. Even still, it plays almost like an after-school special. I can’t help but wonder if he were up against today’s extremely polarized political system, if the same approach could work.
